Absences/Schedule Changes
Please send a written note or call the office please. E-mail is great if an absence is planned in advance such as a vacation. Please do not send an e-mail for schedule changes in case I am not at school that day. I could be gone due to a workshop, conference or illness. I want to make sure your child is sent safely on their way home.
Behavior Plan
In our classroom we use a bingo game to encourage positive behavior along with our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) system. Individual students or the class may earn a chance to help create a bingo by showing respect for others and following the classroom rules. After a bingo has been earned the class enjoys a reward.
Your child will have opportunities throughout the year to earn "Swag Tags" for accomplishments. This system will encourage, promote, and celebrate positive behavior in the classroom. They will add their tags to a necklace that will be kept at school. They will be allowed to wear them every Friday if they chose.
Each student will receive explicit direct instruction regarding our classroom expectations.
Some expected behaviors are: listening and following directions, raising hands to speak, showing respect for others, completing assignments on time, and following the rules for appropriate behaviors in the halls, cafeteria, playground and throughout our school. Each time a child requires a reminder they miss five minutes of recess and then rejoin their peers.
BIRTHDAYS
Our district policy only allows one celebration each month with sugary sweets. I will email you at the beginning of your child's birthday month to let you know which day we will be celebrating. Please remember all treats must be store bought and in it's original package. If your treat needs plates, napkins, or utensils please send those with too. Homework
Reading logs will be given to your child to stay in their homework folders. They are expected to read for 20 minutes each night. Please sign the reading log each night. Each week your child will have a new spelling list that will be sent home each Monday. Please help them study their words. You can find some ideas on the spelling page under Language Arts.
Newsletters
Newsletters will be sent via email at the beginning of each month. You can also find the newsletters under the Welcome tab of this website. I will send home important information in Thursday folders or homework folders.
Snacks and Water bottles
Please send in two boxes of crackers for classroom snacks. To view or print a peanut free snack list visit this link: http://snacksafely.com/snacklist.pdf. Your child may have a water bottle with a top that closes tightly so water will not spill out if tipped over.
Spelling Tests
Pretests will be given each Monday and post-tests on Friday. If your child passes the pretest they are given a challenge list. See Spelling tab for ideas for practicing your spelling words.
Thursday Folders
Each Thursday a red folder will be sent home with all your students work inside. Please review their work with them. Both you and your child will sign the inside sheet of the Thursday folder. Thank you for having active involvement in your child's life.
